The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a government funded initiative to encourage more heat users to switch to a renewable source of fuel. The RHI offers an index linked payment for 20 years based on the amount of eligible heat used. The attractive rate of return available from the RHI over the last few years has seen significant growth in the biomass sector with many companies starting to install biomass systems and District Heat Networks. Some of these installations have been found not to offer the level of efficiency that was originally suggested with fuel use being far greater than expected. By analysing the specification of the products installed and the use of a thermal imaging camera, it is possible to see where heat loss is attributing to the higher running costs. It is then possible to propose adjustments to the system to improve the efficiency saving costs year on year.

McKerrow Engineering was founded by Matt McKerrow.
Matt has a background in agriculture and arboriculture and trained in Energy & Environmental Engineering (BEng(Hons)) to work within the renewable energy industry with a Post Graduate Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
He has worked as a renewables consultant for the Borders Machinery Ring where he was heavily involved in developing the wood fuel supply chain from farms.
From the renewable consultancy, he was offered the opportunity to work with Aeolus Power Wind Energy to set up their Biomass division and proceeded to design and manage the installation of biomass heating systems and District Heat Networks.
His exceptional understanding of biomass along with his practical background enables him to offer support, advice and guidance for farmers, landowners and businesses considering biomass.
